LATON, Calif. (KFSN) — First responders are on the scene of a house fire in Laton where officials have confirmed an unidentified body was discovered inside.<\/p>\n
According to authorities, the fire started shortly after 11 a.m. on Gonser Street between Summit Avenue and Murphy Street, with reports that someone was trapped inside the home.<\/p>\n
An RV parked next to the home also caught fire and was destroyed.<\/p>\n
Nearby homes were threatened by the fire but there have been no reports of additional damage. Flames also spread to vegetation across the street, which firefighters quickly extinguished.<\/p>\n
Firefighters from CAL FIRE, Selma City Fire, Hanford City Fire and Kings County Fire, as well as Fresno County deputies and the California Highway Patrol, all responded to the scene.<\/p>\n
Southern California Edison was also called out because of a gas leak caused by the fire.<\/p>\n
The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced residents.<\/p>\n
The incident remains an active investigation as crews continue searching the property and ensuring there are no remaining hot spots.<\/p>\n
Authorities advised the public to avoid the area and to expect road closures for the next five to six hours.<\/p>\n
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The victim has not yet been identified, nor have officials released their cause of death.<\/p>\n
