BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 This week’s biggest “weather news” was the third heatwave of the season officially ending. Bakersfield saw 15 days-in-a-row of triple digit highs, beginning on July 29th and lasting through August 12th. The hottest day of the year came in on Sunday at 111, making it not only the highest of the season, but actually the hottest reading in 2 years! Up until early this week the last time Meadows Field hit 111 was back on August 7th 2024.<\/p>\n

Only in Bakersfield can one say the 90s are “COOL” in comparison, but we are looking forward to the coolest days in WEEKS around here as a west coast trough gets comfortable across our region. The 90s are baaaack in style and that’s where they may stay for a while. Overnights have gotten a whole lot more comfortable too, with 60s for lows, and even some upper 50s in the cooler spots across the lower elevations.<\/p>\n

\"KBAK\/KBFX\"<\/p>\n

Most of this summer, except for a day here and there, has been characterized as a “nonsoon” for our part of the country. The brunt of the moisture and instability has been flowing through Arizona, and into Nevada at times but that atmospheric pattern has been largely unfavorable for bringing that energy further west into this part of California. As of late this week that overall pattern looks to continue. Furthermore, the trough development over the northeast Pacific will continue to keep a southwesterly to westerly flow into our region, which is usually dry this time of year.<\/p>\n
