A good number are built-out with benches covered by trademark undulating, red roofs \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/lundbergdesign.com\/project\/sfmta-bus-shelters\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">locally designed<\/a>, and meant to evoke \u201ca seismic shock wave,\u201d the surf, or perhaps the Muni logo. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Others have been recently outfitted with wooden benches by a <a href=\"https:\/\/missionlocal.org\/2025\/06\/bay-area-guerilla-benches-at-mission-bus-stops\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">guerrilla outfit<\/a> that the city, for the most part, appears to tolerate; it <a href=\"https:\/\/sfbabc.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">counts 26 benches in the city<\/a>, so far. Many more are just marked by yellow paint on a street pole.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mission Local visited several bus stops in the city at different times of the day \u2014 during the morning rush hour, the end-of-day commute, and later at night. We saw crowds grow and thin, city workers power wash sidewalks, and some stops that stayed mostly empty all day.<\/p>\n<p>Mission and Geneva St.<\/p>\n<p>Mission and Persia St.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Farrell and Larkin St.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Farrell and Leavenworth St.<\/p>\n<p>O&#8217;Farrell and Taylor St.<\/p>\n<p>Ninth and Judah St.<\/p>\n<p>Ninth and Irving St.<\/p>\n<p>Geary and Park Presidio St.<\/p>\n<p>Mission and 24th St.<\/p>\n<p>Mission and 16th St.<\/p>\n<p>Third and Palou St.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"San Francisco has about 3,000 bus stops.
