{"id":436060,"date":"2026-08-18T07:28:09","date_gmt":"2026-08-18T07:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/436060\/"},"modified":"2026-08-18T07:28:09","modified_gmt":"2026-08-18T07:28:09","slug":"frustration-continues-to-mount-in-boyle-heights-after-lineage-fire-nbc-los-angeles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/436060\/","title":{"rendered":"Frustration continues to mount in Boyle Heights after Lineage fire \u2013 NBC Los Angeles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Days after Lineage missed its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbclosangeles.com\/news\/local\/images-inside-boyle-heights-lineage-warehouse\/3929944\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">45-day cleanup deadline<\/a>, dozens of community members from Boyle Heights gathered on Monday to demand action in the aftermath of the warehouse\u2019s fire.<\/p>\n<p>The smell of rotting food plagued the community for weeks as a result of the fire that burned at the cold food storage facility. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass gave the company 45 days to remove and clean up 85 million pounds of the rotting food, and the company missed the Aug. 14 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>With frustration mounting in the community, residents addressed the company directly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur communities and our neighborhoods have been battling with environmental racism for decades and we need reparations,\u201d said Marina Gomez, a Boyle Heights community member. \u201cWe need these corporations to get out of here forever because this was a catastrophe and we need we need new policies that protect us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Teachers now back at school at nearby campuses said they\u2019re concerned about the health of their students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cParents, the students &#8212; they all got allergies,\u201d said Marisol Grajales, another community member. \u201cThey continue to have headaches. They have skin rashes and nosebleeds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Los Angeles mayoral candidate Nithya Raman hosted the rally, where she questioned leadership from city hall and the handling of the aftermath.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy did the city take weeks to conduct door-to-door outreach?\u201d she asked. \u201cWhy did it take more than two weeks to ask for relocation assistance from Lineage?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lineage has been tracking the status of its cleanup online and said as of Saturday, it\u2019s 95% complete.
