Adam Schiff and Alex Padilla announced Monday that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pacificsurfliner.com\/destinations\/los-angeles\/?utm-campaign=18781032624&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=18781032624&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADgEFbWdO8dqJSLDOrUJOAxEHgRCM&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjwhZDUBhBGEiwAbi5bjrN-oIOuev6ItMsv_JhmjtGr1O1ulxgPIOYmrBMAvyskOh5xMUAbDRoCTwwQAvD_BwE\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Amtrak\u2019s Pacific Surfliner<\/a> route will receive more than $150 million in federal grants for rail improvements in San Diego County.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/railroads.dot.gov\/partnership-program\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Federal Railroad Administration\u2019s Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail<\/a> program will provide $124,429,778 to the San Diego Association of Governments \u2014 the region\u2019s transportation agency comprising all 18 cities and the unincorporated county \u2014 and $33.6 million to the city of Encinitas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI am proud to help deliver over $150 million in new safety and modernization upgrades across our Amtrak Pacific Surfliner route to improve pedestrian access,\u201d Schiff said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFrom extending pedestrian underpasses to increasing reliability, this essential investment will improve safety, efficiency, and reduce travel times for Californians \u2014 making travel seamless and keeping pedestrians safe.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The grants, awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation, are intended to improve railroad performance, expand passenger rail service and provide more reliable connections and improved safety.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m proud to announce more than $150 million in federal funding for Amtrak \u2014 an investment in the reliable, affordable rail service Californians count on,\u201d Padilla said. \u201cReliable rail service means good jobs, less gridlock, and better transportation options for Californians.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most of the funding headed to SANDAG is part of a larger effort to double-track the entire San Diego subdivision of the LOSSAN (Los Angeles \u2013 San Diego \u2013 San Luis Obispo) Corridor. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It will go towards constructing a new double-track segment, bridge replacement, realigning pedestrian access to a bike path, extending a pedestrian underpass, and rail crossing safety upgrades in the city of Oceanside, Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, and other cities along infrastructure owned by North County Transit San Diego Railroad.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Encinitas grant will be used to install new vehicle and pedestrian gates at three existing crossings, close one pedestrian crossing, construct two new pedestrian and bicycle at-grade crossings and build a new pedestrian and bicycle undercrossing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Democratic California Sens.
