Gun stores in one California city have emerged as the state\u2019s biggest source of firearms later linked to crimes<\/a>, according to newly released state data.<\/p>\n

Three Bakersfield gun stores<\/a> topped the list between 2023 and 2025.<\/p>\n

Turner\u2019s Outdoorsman on Mohawk Street ranked No. 1, with 83 firearms later linked to crimes, followed by Valley Gun with 78 and Dirty Bird Guns and Ammo with 60.<\/p>\n

Turner\u2019s total alone was higher than the combined tally of the top five dealers in major cities including Los Angeles and San Francisco.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s other cities that are a lot bigger than Bakersfield, and there are cities that have more gun shops, including some of the shops that have come out in this report,\u201d Juan Avila, a worker at Garden Pathways, a violence intervention mentorship program, told KGET<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cSo to see that Bakersfield had a high rate was of concern,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

Some have suggested that gun stores in the area are not selling with the proper guardrails resulting in weapons being put in the wrong hands.<\/p>\n

Bakersfield PD told The Trace<\/a> that the department is \u201cunaware of there being any illegal firearms sales or transactions that are occurring.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Bakersfield Turner\u2019s store is actually one of 30 locations in California, and The Trace previously reported<\/a> the chain sold a quarter of California\u2019s crime-linked guns.<\/p>\n

Some officials, such as Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn, have even called for a probe into the business.<\/p>\n

But some of Turner\u2019s customers said it was actually a difficult process to buy a gun.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel like they\u2019re doing a good job and doing everything right,\u201d Obed Munoz of Bakersfield told KGET. \u201cSo that statistic is shocking, but after you do have the gun, you can do whatever you want with it. So if you do a crime, that\u2019s more on the individual and not the store.\u201d<\/p>\n

Turner\u2019s Outdoorsman has insisted that it follows all laws and regulations.<\/p>\n

The company has a \u201cproven commitment to regulatory compliance\u201d and data on traces \u201cdoes not indicate wrongdoing by the retailer,\u201d it told the Daily Caller.<\/p>\n
