The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office<\/a> has arrested a man following a stabbing at Fresno’s Courthouse Park involving a Senior Deputy District Attorney.<\/p>\n

Deputies identified the suspect as Dustin Crawford, 42, of Fresno.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to law enforcement, deputies around 1:13 p.m. on Thursday received a report of a man being stabbed in Fresno’s Courthouse Park.<\/p>\n

“At 1:16 pm, deputies contacted the male stabbing suspect near the intersection of Fresno Street and Van Ness Ave,” deputies said in a social media post<\/a>. “A Taser was deployed in order to take the suspect into custody. \u00a0A weapon was also recovered from the suspect.”<\/p>\n

Crawford faces charges of attempted murder and attempted murder of a public official. He is in the Fresno County Jail with a bail set at $1 million. \u00a0<\/p>\n

Law enforcement Friday morning said the victim has been treated and released from the hospital.<\/p>\n

The Fresno County District Attorney’s Office<\/a> and D.A. Lisa Smittcamp released the following statement Thursday:<\/p>\n

“We are outraged and deeply saddened by the brazen stabbing of one of our Senior Deputy District Attorneys this afternoon in Courthouse Park.<\/p>\n

Our colleague was transported to Community Regional Medical Center, where he is currently receiving medical care and is being evaluated. We are grateful to the Fresno County Sheriff’s deputies who responded so quickly, apprehended the suspect and provided assistance, as well as the medical personnel caring for our colleague.<\/p>\n

There is no place in our community for violence against those who serve it. Our prosecutors come to work every day committed to pursuing justice, standing up for victims and protecting our community. They should be able to do their jobs without fear of violence.<\/p>\n

Out of respect for our colleague and his family, we will not be releasing his name. Our thoughts are with him and his loved ones, and our entire office is standing together in support of them during this difficult time.<\/p>\n

We understand the Sheriff’s Office and MAGEC are actively investigating this incident and working to determine the motive. We will defer questions regarding the circumstances of the attack and the suspect to the Sheriff’s Office. Our focus right now is on supporting our colleague and his recovery.”<\/p>\n
