OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. \u2013 A nanny accused of killing an Oakland County grandfather appeared in court on Friday.<\/p>\n

Samantha Booth, 35, allegedly stabbed David Ong to death with a screwdriver at a Royal Oak home.<\/p>\n

Background<\/p>\n

The attack happened around 9:30 p.m. on Oct. 24 on Sheridan Drive near Woodward Avenue<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Officers responded to the area for reports of a man calling for help. When they arrived, they found Booth with blood on her hands outside the home. She was arrested after a brief chase.<\/p>\n

Inside the home, officers found Ong, 83, unresponsive in the basement with multiple stab wounds. Despite lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n

Police said Ong was contacted by his daughter, the owner of the Royal Oak home, at around 7:50 p.m. on Oct. 24. She asked him to check on his granddaughter, who was under Booth\u2019s care while she was out of town.<\/p>\n

According to the Oakland County Prosecutor\u2019s Office, the family had known Booth for two years and had previously cared for the child without incident.<\/p>\n

Ong went to the home a short time later but did not give his daughter any updates. Ong\u2019s daughter then called her brother-in-law and asked him to check on both her father and child.<\/p>\n

At around 9:25 p.m. that night, the homeowner\u2019s brother-in-law, the child\u2019s uncle, went into the home through the front door. Police said he heard noises coming from the basement and called out to Booth, but she didn\u2019t respond.<\/p>\n

Police said the child\u2019s uncle then encountered Booth in \u201ca manic state,\u201d covered in blood, and Ong lying on the floor with severe head injuries.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe attacked the victim repeatedly with a screwdriver,\u201d said Royal Oak Police Chief Michael Moore. \u201cAn absolutely horrific crime.\u201d<\/p>\n

The uncle picked up the child and tried to run from the basement to call 911. While he was running, Booth was allegedly trying to attack him with a screwdriver.<\/p>\n

The child\u2019s uncle eventually found a group of people outside who were able to shelter them inside their home and call 911.<\/p>\n

Police said Booth stopped chasing the man and the child, took off all of her clothing and dropped the screwdriver. She then ran away from the officers but was quickly arrested.<\/p>\n

The child and uncle were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. They were treated and released a short time later.<\/p>\n

According to the prosecutor\u2019s office, Booth appeared normal at the start of the day and into the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Officers also found suspected psychedelic mushrooms and marijuana in Booth\u2019s purse.<\/p>\n

Police told Local 4 that Booth said, \u201cI did it,\u201d after she was arrested.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile being transported to the station,\u201d police said, \u201cBooth stated, \u2018I f*** him the f*** up \u2014 and yes, I did it\u2026 God, it was too easy.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

Nanny charged, refuses to show herself during arraignment<\/p>\n

Booth was charged with six felonies: First-degree murder, second-degree child abuse, assault with a dangerous weapon and three counts of assaulting a police officer.<\/p>\n

She was scheduled to appear in court via Zoom on Oct. 28. However, she refused to show herself.<\/p>\n

According to the corrections officer on the Zoom call, Booth took off her clothes<\/a>, lay down in the holding cell and apparently refused to cooperate with him and her attorney.<\/p>\n

After further discussions between the judge, the defense and prosecution, Booth agreed to hear her charges. But, her attorney said she will not show herself on the call, but her attorney will represent her.<\/p>\n

Her attorney said she pleaded not guilty to her charges.<\/p>\n

The judge denied bond, saying Booth is a \u201cpresent danger to society\u201d and believes she could flee if she were given the opportunity.<\/p>\n

Court appearance on Nov. 7<\/p>\n

Booth appeared in court, clothed, on Friday, Nov. 7, via Zoom for a probable cause conference.<\/p>\n

This court appearance was the first time she had shown herself on camera in front of a judge since the attack.<\/p>\n

In the hearing, Booth\u2019s attorney requested that she undergo a competency hearing and a criminal responsibility report.<\/p>\n

The judge granted the request and said a review date will be set within 60 days. A confirmed date was not set in the hearing.<\/p>\n
