BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 A 15-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a deadly shooting that happened during a football game at Independence High School Friday nigh<\/a>t, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.<\/p>\n

Police announced Saturday that the teenage suspect is in custody.<\/p>\n

The shooting happened shortly after 8 p.m. Friday, August 21, inside the gates of the school’s football stadium and south of the football field as the game was taking place, according to police.<\/p>\n

Officers found a 17-year-old boy suffering from gunshot wounds. He was taken to Kern Medical, where he later died.<\/p>\n

Investigators initially said the shooting appeared to stem from an isolated altercation involving a group of individuals.<\/p>\n

In announcing the arrest, Bakersfield police said:<\/p>\n

\u201cOur hearts are with the family of the 17-year-old who lost his life, & all those impacted by this tragedy. We have a strong community. That strength will carry us forward.\u201d<\/p>\n

Police also released a photo showing the back of the teenage suspect as he is being taken into custody, with an officer patting him down and the suspect in handcuffs.<\/p>\n

Bakersfield police have not yet released additional details about the arrest or potential charges.<\/p>\n
