FRESNO, Calif. (FOX26) \u2014 Fresno City Attorney Andrew Janz plans to hold a news conference to discuss stronger prosecutor safety measures.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be held outside the courthouse on M Street on Monday, August 24th, at around 9 a.m.<\/p>\n

Janz wants to address an escalating pattern of retaliatory threats against public legal officers.<\/p>\n

This comes months after a person trespassed <\/a>on his private property.<\/p>\n

It is also connected to the daytime stabbing of a Senior Deputy District Attorney in Courthouse Park.<\/p>\n

Janz will urge municipal and county officials to establish clear policy pathways and defensive training programs authorizing eligible city attorneys and prosecutors to carry concealed firearms for personal protection while performing their public duties.<\/p>\n

Janz said, “Just a few months ago, my family faced this reality at our home when an armed individual who filed claims against the City breached our fence in the middle of the night. Last Thursday, a senior prosecutor was targeted in broad daylight right outside our courthouse simply for doing his job years ago. These are not random acts of street violence\u2014public legal officers and civil servants are being targeted for upholding the rule of law. We cannot and will not wait for another tragedy before taking aggressive action to protect our people.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
