In a move to aid a running backs room impacted by injuries during training camp, the New Orleans Saints<\/a> acquiredZamir White<\/a> in a trade that sent veteran linebacker Deion Jones<\/a> to the San Francisco 49ers<\/a>, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Sunday night.<\/p>\n

The deal fills a short-term need for the Saints, who are thin in the backfield. Longtime starterAlvin Kamara<\/a>is out for at least several weeks because of an MCL injury he suffered last week.Audric Estime<\/a> (ankle) did not travel to California for the team’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams<\/a> on Saturday after he injured his ankle in New Orleans’ first preseason contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>. And Devin Neal<\/a> has been dealing with hamstring issues during camp. He returned last week but then reinjured the hamstring Saturday, forcing him to leave against the Rams.<\/p>\n

The Saints recently got back running backKendre Miller<\/a>(back) and offseason acquisition Travis Etienne Jr<\/a>., Ty Chandler<\/a> and CJ Donaldson<\/a>are all healthy.<\/p>\n

White, who signed with the 49ers in early August, had faced long odds to make the team after running backs Christian McCaffrey<\/a> (tightness), Kaelon Black<\/a> (adductor) and Jordan James<\/a> (rib) returned from injury in the past week.<\/p>\n

White, 26, was a fourth-round draft pick of the Las Vegas Raiders<\/a> in 2022 and spent the first four seasons of his career there.<\/p>\n

New Orleans had just signed Jones, 31, earlier this month. He was considered a long shot to make the team in an established Saints linebacker group.<\/p>\n

Jones was selected in the second round by the Atlanta Falcons<\/a>in 2016, and also spent time with the Carolina Panthers<\/a>, Cleveland Browns<\/a> and Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>. He started 83 games for the Falcons over six seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2017.<\/p>\n

Jones has a connection with 49ers defensive coordinator Raheem Morris after playing for him in Atlanta.<\/p>\n

San Francisco already had depth at linebacker, but backup Jalen Graham<\/a> has missed the past couple of days because of an injury.<\/p>\n
