(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 The Kern County Coroner\u2019s Office has identified the<a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/pedestrian-suffers-major-injuries-after-being-struck-near-ming-avenue-and-wible-road-bpd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"> man who was struck and killed by a vehicle on Wible Road<\/a> as 36-year-old Matthew David Harper of Bakersfield.<\/p>\n<p>The Bakersfield Police Department said on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026, at 9:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Wible Road with a report of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian.<\/p>\n<p>When officers arrived, they found Harper down in the roadway suffering from \u201cfatal injuries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The coroner\u2019s report said Harper was taken to Kern Medical where he later died from his injuries.<\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/bakersfieldnow.com\/news\/local\/pedestrian-suffers-major-injuries-after-being-struck-near-ming-avenue-and-wible-road-bpd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Man dies after being struck by vehicle on Wible Road near Valley Plaza Mall<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The driver of the vehicle, identified as a woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"A man died Wednesday night after being struck by a vehicle on Wible Road near Valley Plaza Mall when, police say, he was crossing outside of a crosswalk. PHOTO: KBAK\/KBFX<\/p>\n<p>Police said the investigation found that Harper was crossing outside of a crosswalk on Wible Road south of Ming Avenue when he was struck by the southbound vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>According to police, the driver showed no signs of impairment, and speed did not appear to be a factor in the crash.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
