BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 Two men were arrested, and their off-road motorcycles were impounded, after police said a woman was struck by an off-road motorcycle while walking the Kern River Trail, where motorized vehicles are prohibited.<\/p>\n
The Bakersfield Police Department said on August 23, 2026, at around 6:52 p.m., officers were called to the Kern River Trail west of Riverwalk Park regarding a reported hit-and-run crash involving an off-road motorcycle and a pedestrian.<\/p>\n
Police said a pedestrian, identified as a woman, sustained minor injuries after being hit by an off-road motorcycle while walking on the trail.<\/p>\n
According to police, during the investigation, officers found two men riding off-road motorcycles on the Kern River Trail near the undercrossing at South Allen Road. Police said the riders initially tried to evade officers but were subsequently detained after one of the motorcycles became disabled in the riverbed.<\/p>\n
The men were arrested for applicable violations related to the incident.<\/p>\n
Both motorcycles were impounded.<\/p>\n
In a release, it said, \u201cThe Bakersfield Police Department would like to remind the public that motorized vehicles are prohibited on the Kern River Trail, and operating motorized vehicles on the trail is inherently dangerous to pedestrians, bicyclists, and other trail users.\u201d Police said Class 1 and Class 2 electric bicycles are exempt from this prohibition.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Kern River Trail is intended to provide a safe environment for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other authorized users,\u201d said in the release.<\/p>\n
