Gov. Gavin Newsom’s sprawling Sacramento-area mansion is up for sale.<\/p>\n
The 12,700-square-foot mansion in Fair Oaks \u2014 an unincorporated community in Sacramento County bordering the American River \u2014 has been listed for $7.5 million.<\/p>\n
News of the listing<\/a>, which is being handled by Sotheby’s International Realty, was first reported by the Sacramento Bee<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n The listing describes the seven-bedroom home at 7640 Tobia Way as a “showcase of Santa Barbara-inspired architecture” that is “privately positioned along the bluffs on 8.2 acres.” It boasts of amenities including a resort-style pool, hot tub, cold plunge, tennis court and 5,000-bottle wine cellar.<\/p>\n The Newsoms purchased the mansion in December 2018 for $3.7 million shortly before Newsom took office as the 40th governor of California in January 2019, The Times reported. The state’s first family had quickly ditched the historic governor’s mansion<\/a>.<\/p>\n In 2024, the Newsoms bought in Marin County, where they previously lived. They purchased a $9.1-million estate where they primarily live and their four children attend school. Newsom and his wife spend time in the Fair Oaks home while working at the state Capitol.<\/p>\n Newsom was raised in San Francisco and was the city’s mayor from 2004 to 2011. He was California’s lieutenant governor \u2014 a mostly ceremonial role that includes positions on several higher-education boards \u2014 from 2011 to 2019. During a 2012 interview<\/a>, he famously described Sacramento as “just so dull.”<\/p>\n Izzy Gardon, a spokesperson for the governor’s office, said in a statement Monday evening that the “dull” comment is outdated and that Newsom had since told reporters that he loves Sacramento.<\/p>\n The Newsoms bought the Marin home toward the end of his final term to “provide continuity” for their children’s education, Gardon said. “Selling the Sacramento home is the next step in that transition.”<\/p>\n Newsom has been eyeing a 2028 presidential run. In June, he accused the Department of Justice of launching a baseless investigation of him and his wife at President Trump’s direction<\/a>. Jennifer Siebel Newsom is a documentary filmmaker and in 2011 founded a nonprofit advocating for more women in leadership roles.<\/p>\n In July, the Newsoms allowed reporters to view, but not copy, their tax returns from 2019 through their most recent filings for 2024. The returns showed they had earned at least $11 million since he took office.<\/p>\n According to The Times<\/a>, their reported income was highest in 2021 when they quietly sold their Marin County home for $5.9 million<\/a>.<\/p>\n
