Gov. Gavin Newsom<\/a> and his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom, have listed their sprawling Sacramento County estate for $7.5 million as the governor prepares to leave office next year.<\/p>\n

The 8.2-acre property<\/a>, located along the bluffs near the American River in Fair Oaks, went on the market Monday through Sotheby’s International Realty.<\/p>\n

Newsom, a Democrat who is barred by term limits from seeking a third term, is scheduled to leave office in January 2027. The Newsoms have increasingly based their family in Marin County, where they purchased a $9.1 million home<\/a> in Kentfield in 2024.<\/p>\n

The Fair Oaks estate includes a 12,663-square-foot, seven-bedroom home, according to the listing. It also has a full-size tennis court, resort-style swimming pool, private guest house, four-car garage and a wine cellar designed to hold about 5,000 bottles.<\/p>\n

Other features include a cold plunge, hot tub, four fireplaces, an elevator and a primary suite with two walk-in closets, dual showers, separate water closets and a soaking tub.\u00a0The property’s listing describes it as a Santa Barbara-inspired estate with landscaped grounds and sweeping views.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Newsoms bought the property for $3.7 million in 2018, according to the Sacramento Bee<\/a>. If it sells for the asking price, the price would be more than double the couple’s purchase price.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The home was purchased after Newsom became governor in 2019 as an alternative to the state-owned Governor’s Mansion in downtown Sacramento. The family initially lived in the historic mansion while the Fair Oaks property was renovated.<\/p>\n

Newsom and Siebel Newsom later began splitting their time between Sacramento and Marin County, where their children attend school.<\/p>\n

They previously owned a different\u00a0Kentfield home, which they sold for nearly $5.9 million in 2021.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Newsom’s decision to live outside the official governor’s mansion was unusual but not without precedent.<\/p>\n

Jerry Brown returned to the downtown residence in 2015 after a multimillion-dollar renovation, but he had lived in a state-owned apartment during his first two terms. Ronald Reagan moved out of the mansion in 1967 after Nancy Reagan called it a “firetrap,” while Arnold\u00a0Schwarzenegger commuted from Southern California.\u00a0<\/p>\n
