Crews were still trying to restore power to many of them on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The outage began at about 6:40 p.m. when an underground electrical vault caught fire near the Bluff Heights neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>Firefighters extinguished the vault on Broadway near Newport Avenue, said Long Beach Fire Department spokesperson Brian Fisk, and SCE crews de-energized the line.<\/p>\n<p>        Keep up with LAist.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re enjoying this article, you&#8217;ll love our daily newsletter, The LA Report. Each weekday, catch up on the 5 most pressing stories to start your morning in 3 minutes or less.  <\/p>\n<p>The blackout initially affected 26,626 customers, according to the <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sce.com\/outages-safety\/outage-center\/check-outage-status\" target=\"_blank\" data-cms-ai=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Southern California Edison outage map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The boundaries of the outage were:<\/p>\n<p>West of Quincy AvenueEast of Alamitos AvenueNorth of East Ocean BoulevardSouth of East 7th Street<\/p>\n<p>As of 6 a.m. Monday, power had been restored to several thousand customers, but 16,456 households remained out, according to the outage map.<\/p>\n<p>SoCal Edison estimated power would be restored by noon Monday.<\/p>\n<p>The blackout occurred as much of the region remained under a high heat advisory.
