Legendary actor Tim Curry\u2014famous for his roles in “It,” “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” and “Home Alone 2<\/a>“\u2014has passed away at the age of 80, 14 years after suffering a serious stroke that saw him confined to a wheelchair. <\/p>\n

The British-born star is reported to have passed away inside his Los Angeles<\/a> home, according to TMZ<\/a>, which was the first outlet to reveal the news. His death was confirmed to The New York Times<\/a> by his longtime agent and manager, Marcia Hurwitz.<\/p>\n

Police sources told the outlet that officers responded to Curry’s California<\/a> property at around 11:23 PM local time on Aug. 25\u2014and that there is no foul play suspected in the case. <\/p>\n

Curry, who began his acting career on the stage in London, was shot to global fame after he starred as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in the 1975 hit “Rocky Horror Picture Show,” a part that earned him critical acclaim and solidified his status as a major Hollywood player. <\/p>\n

However, he did not officially relocate to Los Angeles until 1988, according to reports, five years before he purchased a historic Los Feliz<\/a> home that he spent years restoring to its original glory. <\/p>\n

The extraordinary property\u2014which is currently on the market for $7.5 million\u2014is known as the Seyler House and was designed by acclaimed architect Stiles O. Clements in 1922. <\/p>\n

Curry paid just $650,000 for the property in 1993, records show, and then proceeded to carry out a years-long restoration of the historic structure, the results of which were later showcased in a shoot for Architectural Digest. <\/p>\n

The actor explained to the outlet in the 1998 interview that he had hoped to bring a kind of “European eclecticism” to the property, noting that he had always felt “most comfortable in a house of many layers.”<\/p>\n

He also gushed about how the property helped to grow his passion for gardening, explaining that he would spend many hours tending to the land that surrounded his residence, where he lived with his dog. <\/p>\n

Curry lived in the home until 2001, when he sold it for the much higher price of $2.6 million\u2014at which point he moved into a new Los Angeles abode. <\/p>\n

However, his impact on the property is still remembered, even after the home passed through multiple other owners, with its current listing hailing the actor’s incredible restoration of the property. <\/p>\n

“Few homes in Los Angeles carry a century of distinction as gracefully as the Seyler House,” it states. “Designed by Stiles O. Clements and perched on a hillside on one of Los Feliz’ most storied streets, this 1922 Spanish Colonial Revival estate sits on nearly 1.5 acres of terraced grounds. <\/p>\n

“This transportive residence made its Architectural Digest debut in August 1924, just two years after completion. It returned to the magazine’s pages in 1998, documenting Tim Curry’s meticulous restoration of the property’s original details: exposed wood-beam ceilings, hand-painted surfaces, stained-glass windows, iridescent copper, and vintage tile.” <\/p>\n

After Curry moved out of the property, it played host to a spate of other celebrity owners and residents, including “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson, “The Big Bang Theory” actor Jim Parsons, and “The Pitt” star Noah Wyle, according to the listing. <\/p>\n

“Breaking Bad” star Aaron Paul also owned the property for several years. <\/p>\n

Curry continued to live in Los Angeles, however, most recently at the North Hollywood property where he passed away, which records show last changed hands for just over $1 million in 2015. <\/p>\n

Police officers told KTLA 5 that they were called to the dwelling “for a death investigation of a male in his 80s,” however they did not share any other information, save for the block where the property is located. <\/p>\n

Following his stroke, Curry largely withdrew from the public eye, save for a handful of red carpet appearances, including one in October 2025, when he was a guest of honor at The Grammy Museum celebration of the music featured in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show.” <\/p>\n

That same month, he opened up to The New York<\/a> Times about the stroke, while speaking about what it was like to write his memoir, “Vagabond,” while he was still very much recovering from the incident. <\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve been recovering for quite a long time,” he shared. <\/p>\n

In his book, Curry made clear that, while he would happily lay bare his most poignant memories from his work projects, his romantic life would remain closely under wraps. The actor was not known to have ever married, nor were any details about his partners ever revealed to the public\u2014something he made clear he did not intend to change. <\/p>\n

“Specifics about my affairs of the heart or the bedroom are\u2014respectfully\u2014none of your [expletive] business,” he wrote. <\/p>\n

Even after his stroke, however, Curry made clear his intention to continue working, telling the outlet that he was unable to imagine what retiring would feel or look like for him. <\/p>\n
