We buy bottled water. We use a bucket to fill up our shower water to get it warm. We use that to flush our toilets. We use a bucket to wash our dishes. We only change it maybe once, twice a day. If we have to, we use bottled water for everything else other than laundry and dishes and our showers, which we save,” one neighbor said.

County leaders said the water has tested positive for iron and manganese, which they cited as the reason for the discoloration.

Residents said more testing is needed and raised concerns about potential health impacts.

“If it was just discolored, I wouldn’t have an issue with it. I could live with discolored. I can’t live knowing that if I drink it, my health deteriorates,” another neighbor said.

The meeting also included discussions about testing sites, bill rates and how future steps could be funded. Magsig said he is looking for additional resources to address the community’s concerns.

“As a supervisor I’m committed to working with the state to try to find additional grant sources whether it be new wells or the possibility of new filtration systems or even an opportunity to replace infrastructure that they have in their community,” Magsig said.

Some residents left the meeting upset with how they felt they were treated.

“I feel like we were very disrespected um I think it was rude I think they made it all about them and they should have made it about the community,” Jennifer Taber, a concerned neighbor, said.

After the meeting, Magsig was again asked about drinking the water.

“I’m absolutely willing to drink the water but the water that I drink is going to be from the sites that the county tests I don’t know what people bring to meetings and of course right now we live in a time where county employees are attacked,” he said. “Absolutely willing to drink from the water but it’s going to be sources where the county is testing where the water is being delivered directly to their homes I have no problem with that.”

Neighbors said they worry about what happens if conditions do not improve.

“All we want is clean water, that’s all we’re fighting for, is clean water. We’re scared,” Taber said. “At minimum I hope that they test the tanks they I did talk to the state and they said that they tested for the manganese and they tested for the iron but what we need to be testing for is for the bacteria we need to find out if there’s vocs or bacteria in our water and I don’t know why they’re not testing for that.”

Two main issues raised by residents were higher rates and fears of potentially contaminated water, while Magsig said he remains dedicated to helping the community find a solution.

Fresno County officials have previously said iron and manganese are considered secondary contaminants and are not considered contaminants that make the water unsafe to drink.

Magsig said he still wants to address the discoloration.

Frustration over discolored tap water boiled over in Shaver Springs as neighbors pressed Fresno County officials during a…

[31
112,114,113
post-444863","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fresno","tag-fresno","tag-fresno-headlines","tag-fresno-news
["GET
