SAN JOSE \u2014 A preliminary proposal to turn part of a surface parking lot near a light rail station in South San Jose into senior housing was filed with the city Planning Department.<\/p>\n
The proposal from real estate firms Republic Urban Properties, Swenson and EAH Housing would produce 165 apartment units for seniors at 605 Blossom Hill Road, according to Michael Van Every, president and managing partner for Republic Urban Properties.<\/p>\n

Because the Blossom Hill Road proposal is preliminary, city input could enable the development alliance to fine-tune the project, which could feature an assisted living and memory care component.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re trying to get some feedback from the city,\u201d Van Every said. \u201cWe think there is a good market for senior assisted living.\u201d<\/p>\n Different developments have been proposed for the project site over the last several years, with the idea that two residential buildings be built near Blossom Hill Road and a smaller surface parking lot near the light rail station. A second apartment building is still being planned next to the recently proposed senior living site.<\/p>\n The Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority currently owns the property. If the two residential projects proceed, the VTA would lease the land beneath the buildings to the development group.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Surface parking lot at 605 Blossom Hill Road in south San Jose.
