It was only a few years ago that The Laugh Factory had (and then didn\u2019t have<\/a>) plans to open a comedy club in Fresno.<\/p>\n

The city hasn\u2019t had a dedicated venue for comedy since Screwballs became a blues club back in 1997, but the local comedy business seems booming, especially among touring comics who are finding ample audience in Fresno.<\/p>\n

See past visits from Bill Burr<\/a>, Matt Rife<\/a>, Rob Schneider and more recently Nate Bargatze and Joy Koy.<\/p>\n

It was a comedian, Rene Vaca<\/a>, who set a (recent memory) attendance record at the Warnors Theatre with two sold out shows in December. Just last weekend, Dustin Nickerson<\/a> sold out (days in advance) a pair of shows at Strummer\u2019s nightclub.<\/p>\n

Also sold out: A two-night run of Morgan Jay\u2019s Goofy Guy<\/a> tour, which stops at the Tower Theatre, Sept. 2-3. There\u2019s a low-ticket warning for the final leg of Michael Blaustein\u2019s Taste Me tour,<\/a> which does two nights the following week, Sept. 9-10.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s worth noting here, that there is a network of smaller comedy showcases and open mics happening each week, including free, tip-based performances<\/a> at Di Cicco\u2019s in Clovis (on Fridays) and at Dave and Buster\u2019s in Fresno (Sunday to Wednesday).<\/p>\n
