(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 Three people were killed and at least three others suffered major injuries in a head-on crash Friday morning in the Lakeview area, according to the California Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n<p>The crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. on Copus Road just west of Old River Road.<\/p>\n<p><img alt=\"Copus Road remains closed both ways as CHP investigates fatal crash (KBAK\/KBFX)\" class=\"ImageEmbed_image__qZBo_\" decoding=\"async\" height=\"365\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/1787932210_514_a5f75883-de28-4f95-93fd-4134cfb3973c-Image3.jpg\" width=\"648\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Copus Road remains closed both ways as CHP investigates fatal crash (KBAK\/KBFX)<\/p>\n<p>CHP said an unsafe lane change was involved in the crash. Investigators have not determined which vehicle made the unsafe lane change.<\/p>\n<p>Copus Road was closed in both directions following the crash.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier, a Kern County Fire Department fire chief at the scene said three people were killed and four others were taken to a hospital.<\/p>\n<p>This is a developing story.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
