California Gov. Gavin Newsom \u201csigned into law the \u2018Home Run for Anaheim Act<\/a>,\u2019 a step that elected officials in Orange County consider a significant step\u201d in reverting the MLB team\u2019s name back to Anaheim Angels. The law \u201cdoes not mandate\u201d the Angels revert to the Anaheim Angels name, but it \u201cprovides the city with an incentive to dangle before the team.\u201d If the Angels wish to develop the 150-acre Angel Stadium property, state law \u201cwould prioritize affordable housing within the site.\u201d The city of Anaheim could \u201cseek an exemption from the affordable housing law,\u201d which \u201cwouldn\u2019t rule out housing on the site, but it would give a team more flexibility to build whatever project might be considered most profitable.\u201d If the city obtains the exemption, the \u201cnew law says, \u2018then any materials, including, but not limited to, a lease, deed of sale, and promotional or marketing materials, shall refer to that team as the Anaheim Angels.\u2019\u201d The city could \u201cuse the exemption as leverage in discussions\u201d with team owner Arte Moreno or a new owner (L.A.
