BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (UNLVRebels.com) \u2014 The UNLV men’s soccer team (2-1-0) jumped to a first-half lead it never relinquished en route to a 2-1 win over CSU Bakersfield (1-1-1) on Saturday night at CBU Main\u00a0Soccer\u00a0Field.<\/p>\n
The Rebels netted their goals within a two-minute span early as senior forward Nick Legendre<\/a> scored in the 16th minute and senior defender\u00a0Mikah Madrid<\/a> found the back of the net in the 18th minute. CSUB tacked on a 40th-minute goal, but the Rebels turned away any potential equalizer chances.<\/p>\n STAT OF THE GAME:\u00a0Senior goalkeeper Hugo Lemos<\/a> and the Scarlet & Gray backline deterred\u00a018 shots on the night after facing a flurry of 19 Roadrunner shots,\u00a0including 11 shot attempts in the second half.\u00a0Lemos finished with seven saves credited to his name,\u00a0as well as an assist alongside freshman Thomas Gulbrandsen<\/a> on Legendre’s opening\u00a0goal.<\/p>\n With the victory, the Rebels handed the first loss of the season to a CSUB squad that came off a draw against No. 17 UCLA in its previous match.\u00a0<\/p>\n QUOTABLE:\u00a0“Great win on the road tonight. I’m so proud of the team effort and the next-man-in mentality of this group. That is what you need to perform well. We had so many good plays with the ball and collective defending when the game was on the line. The key is to keep learning and move forward.
