{"id":44814,"date":"2025-11-09T02:53:10","date_gmt":"2025-11-09T02:53:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/44814\/"},"modified":"2025-11-09T02:53:10","modified_gmt":"2025-11-09T02:53:10","slug":"usc-warns-students-and-residents-about-man-posing-as-a-building-manager","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/44814\/","title":{"rendered":"USC warns students and residents about man posing as a building manager"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The University of Southern California\u2019s Department of Public Safety is warning students and residents about a man posing as a representative for a building management company to gain access to people\u2019s homes. <\/p>\n<p>Authorities say the suspect approached  residences on the 1100 block of 28th Street  and the 2600 block of Orchard Avenue, claiming he was there to fix a water leak. Once inside, the man began asking \u201cinappropriate personal questions,\u201d including ones about romantic relationships, according to DPS, which received multiple reports about the suspect.<\/p>\n<p>In one incident, the man allegedly took a resident\u2019s car key fob and returned it that evening.<\/p>\n<p>Officials are urging community members to exercise caution and verify any unknown person\u2019s identity through building management before allowing them into their homes. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour awareness and quick action help keep our community safe,\u201d DPS said in a <a class=\"link\" href=\"https:\/\/dps.usc.edu\/2025\/11\/07\/community-safety-advisory-22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">statement<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>DPS also issued to following guidance to residents: \u201cIf you feel unsafe or uncertain about someone\u2019s legitimacy, call DPS at (213) 740-4321 or (323) 442-1000.
