Career pipeline<\/p>\n
Christian Arteaga, a recent Leigh High School graduate, was among five Silicon Valley Career Technical Education (SVCTE) students who took their career training from the classroom into the workplace this summer through Valley Water\u2019s first Pipeline and Pathways Summer Bridge internship program.<\/p>\n
The program was created specifically for SVCTE high school seniors and recent graduates ages 18 and older to get paid, hands-on experience alongside skilled-trades professionals.<\/p>\n
The 10-week paid program was designed to build an early talent pipeline into skilled trades while giving students an opportunity to apply their technical training in a professional environment. Each student was paired with a Valley Water mentor who provided guidance, industry knowledge and hands-on learning throughout the summer.<\/p>\n
As a skilled trades intern, Arteaga worked alongside Valley Water\u2019s Carlos Perales in support of the facilities management unit. Arteaga, who completed SVCTE\u2019s Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) program, was able to put what he\u2019d learned to use during the internship, diagnosing and repairing heating and cooling systems.<\/p>\n
\u201cSVCTE helped me get the internship, and what made me want to apply was the opportunity to get more hands-on experience, work alongside a mentor and gain more knowledge about the trades,\u201d Arteaga said in a release.<\/p>\n

The Friends of the Campbell Library will hold their next Second Saturday Book Sale on Sept, 12, 10 a.m.-1 p.m., in the library\u2019s community room. As the name suggests, these sales are slated for the second Saturday of the month through Dec. 12.<\/p>\n
