(FOX26) \u2014 13 drivers were arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after passing through a DUI checkpoint in Fresno on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The checkpoint was located at Clovis and Lamona Avenue, between McKinley and Olive Avenues.<\/p>\n<p>[RELATED] <a href=\"https:\/\/kmph.com\/news\/crime\/visalia-police-confirm-dui-arrest-after-brief-chase\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Visalia police confirm DUI arrest after brief chase<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Police said 371 vehicles were contacted during the checkpoint that ran from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the 13 DUI arrests, 24 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license.<\/p>\n<p>Officials said DUI checkpoint locations are based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, and that the primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off road.<\/p>\n<p>The next DUI enforcement operation will be a DUI saturation patrol scheduled for September 19th.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"FRESNO, Calif.
