The business closed earlier in August, although its exact closure date was unclear.

The spicy fried chicken restaurant took some of its inspiration from fan-fave fast food franchises such as In-N-Out Burger and Raising Cane’s, its owner told The Sacramento Bee a year ago.

There was no response to a request for comment on the closure.

Fire & Crisp was owned by entrepreneur Cesar Jimenez, a newcomer to fast food restaurant operations, but not new to owning a business, according to previous reporting by The Bee.

The restaurant, which opened in July 2025, took over the Nash & Proper hot chicken restaurant location in the Crest Theatre building. It billed itself as gluten-free, using homemade rice flour instead of wheat for its fried chicken as well as gluten-free buns.

Fire & Crisp is now part of a list of K Street businesses that have closed this year, among them a cluster of businesses in the 700 block, including Tiger Restaurant & Lounge, Koja Kitchen, Cakes by Jeff, Tandoori Pizza and Pressed Juicery.

A gluten-free Nashville-style hot chicken restaurant has permanently closed after one year in downtown Sacramento.
