(KBAK\/KBFX) \u2014 Three people were arrested, and several were cited during a DUI checkpoint in Delano Friday night.<\/p>\n<p>The Delano Police Department said the DUI checkpoint was in the 1400 block of Fremont Street from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Friday, August 28.<\/p>\n<p>Delano PD said 602 vehicles were contacted, with three drivers cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended\/revoked license. Police said three people were arrested for other criminal charges, including driving under the influence, bench warrants, and public intoxication.<\/p>\n<p>DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes.<\/p>\n<p>The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.<\/p>\n<p>Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"BAKERSFIELD, Calif.
