A Fresno truck driving school has been shut down by the federal government as part of a nationwide crackdown against schools that approve drivers who fail English language proficiency tests.

Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administrator Derek Barrs revealed during a press conference that Platinum Plus Truck Driving School in Fresno was among the schools that have been shut down.

The big picture: Overall, the federal government has shut down 110 commercial driver’s license (CDL) schools that have had more than 5,000 drivers who failed English language proficiency tests.

Driving the news: Platinum Plus Truck Driving School drew the attention of the federal government after one of the drivers it had trained killed someone while driving in Oklahoma.

What they’re saying: “Platinum Plus Truck Driving School in California certified 36 drivers who were later cited for these English language proficiency violations, and one of these trainees killed someone in Oklahoma,” Barrs said in the press conference.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said the Department of Transportation has spent the last year-and-a-half strengthening the rules of the road and removing dangerous foreign drivers from the trucking industry.

“To fully root out the scourge of fraud, hold criminals accountable, and restore safety, we need the support of federal law enforcement,” Duffy said in a statement. “I am so grateful for President Trump raising the alarm on this issue, and to Vice President Vance for leading the charge to crack down on fraud nationwide. From states failing to follow the law to shady training schools and illicit companies, together we will tackle every link in the chain.”

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said there is a growing and alarming trend of illegal aliens being granted commercial driver’s licenses because of the recklessness of sanctuary politicians.

“Many of them don’t speak English or understand the rules of the road, and yet they’re driving among us, endangering our loved ones,” Mullin said. “As a result, far too many Americans have lost their lives because an illegal alien was behind the wheel.”

[31
112,114,113
post-451551","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fresno","tag-fresno","tag-fresno-headlines","tag-fresno-news
["GET
