{"id":452115,"date":"2026-09-03T10:52:30","date_gmt":"2026-09-03T10:52:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/452115\/"},"modified":"2026-09-03T10:52:30","modified_gmt":"2026-09-03T10:52:30","slug":"sacramento-approves-safety-improvements-near-seven-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/452115\/","title":{"rendered":"Sacramento approves safety improvements near seven schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Sacramento City Council on Tuesday approved a <a href=\"https:\/\/sacramento.legistar.com\/View.ashx?M=F&amp;ID=15811961&amp;GUID=1AE2A3EE-B198-40A7-B915-316F3ED3D156\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">$2.25 million project<\/a> to improve safety and access for students traveling to seven schools across the city.<\/p>\n<p>The Vision Zero School Safety Project will bring pedestrian and traffic safety improvements near:<\/p>\n<p>Father Keith B. Kenny Elementary School<br \/>\nNatomas High School<br \/>\nSt. Hope Public School PS7<br \/>\nSmythe Academy<br \/>\nThe Met Sacramento High School<br \/>\nWest Campus High School<br \/>\nWilliam Land Elementary School<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese improvements are designed to make the trip to and from school more comfortable for students, families and everyone traveling near these campuses,\u201d said Public Works Senior Engineer Luke Fuson. \u201cThe project reflects input from school communities and advances the City\u2019s commitment to safer streets for people walking, biking and using transit.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Improvements will vary by location and include new or upgraded crosswalks, curb ramps, traffic signs, pavement markings, bicycle-lane treatments, traffic-signal modifications and student loading areas.<\/p>\n<p>The work is based on recommendations from the City\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityofsacramento.gov\/content\/dam\/portal\/pw\/mas\/visionzero\/VZ-School-Safety-Study-Final-Approved.pdf\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Vision Zero School Safety Study<\/a>, which examined safety and access near 20 Sacramento schools. The City developed the recommendations through technical evaluations and consultation with school communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Council awarded a nearly $1.7 million construction contract to Pacific Excavation Inc.
