(WJBF) \u2013 California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) stopped in Aiken, S.C. on Friday, Sept. 4, 2026.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">It was part of a two-day tour to connect with democrats in South Carolina. The visit comes ahead of the 2028 Democratic primary.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">&#8220;I believe we&#8217;re better off when we have oversight,&#8221; Newsom said. &#8220;I believe Congress, is not doing their job, with the current makeup. And I&#8217;m looking forward to getting Democrats elected to, a system of real checks and balances in this country, which I think is fundamentally healthy. And I think vast majority of Americans agree with that fundamental point of view. Democrats, independents and Republicans.
