What did we learn from the game? Here are five key takeaways:

A complete performance

Unlike last week, USC did not take its foot off the gas in the fourth quarter. This time, the Trojans played a full 60 minutes of football and did not allow their opponent to make the game look closer than it actually was with several garbage time scores.

A shutout!

Is Fresno State an elite opponent? Absolutely not. But shutting out any team in college football is not easy. Defensive coordinator Gary Patterson deserves his flowers for this performance.

Need a news break? Check out the all new PLAY hub with puzzles, games and more!Mosley shines again

Trent Mosley might already be one of the best wide receivers in the country. For the second consecutive game, he recorded over 100 yards receiving and also found the end zone—this time, doing it twice.

Big night for Maiava

USC quarterback Jayden Maiava had perhaps his best statistical performance as a Trojan to date. Playing less than three full quarters of action, Maiava completed 23 of 25 pass attempts for 349 yards and three touchdowns. On the season, USC’s quarterback now has as many total touchdowns (six) as incompletions.

Staying safe

Have you ever seen a defense record not one, but two safeties in a single game? Well, the Trojans did just that!

Up next

After a short week this past week, USC will now have an extra day off before hosting Louisiana next Saturday night at the Coliseum. Kickoff is set for 8:00 p.m. Pacific time on Big Ten Network.

Contact/Follow @TrojansWire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of USC Trojans news, notes and opinion.

[31
243,112,114,113,129117,91058,13081,5727,5725,507,65397,3143,1350,11986,3390,173749,129118,159159,25943,83608,377,179497,58273,246
post-454425","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fresno","tag-accessfree","tag-fresno","tag-fresno-headlines","tag-fresno-news","tag-sourcetrojans-wire","tag-sstssportscollegetrojansfootball","tag-sstsnfootball","tag-tagbig-10-hub","tag-tagbig-ten-conference-football","tag-tagcalifornia-gold-rush","tag-tagcgr-sports","tag-tagcollege-football","tag-tagcollege-sports","tag-tagfootball","tag-tagfresno-state-bulldogs-football","tag-taggary-patterson","tag-taglincoln-riley","tag-taglouisiana-lafayette-ragin-cajuns","tag-tagncaa-big-ten-conference","tag-tagsouthern-california-trojans-football","tag-tagsports-news","tag-tagul-lafayette-ragin-cajuns-football","tag-tagusc-trojans","tag-typestory
["GET
![""]("https://www.newsbeep.com/us-ca/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/1788606618_645_91532686007-20260829-t-201648-z-1888198054-mt-1-usatoday-29692133-rtrmadp-3-ncaafootballsanjosestate.webp")
