Northern Californians savor summer\u2019s final days with outdoor activities<\/p>\n

As Labor Day approaches, Northern California families are taking advantage of mild weather to enjoy outdoor activities along the American River and Folsom Lake. <\/p>\n

\u201cI looked at the weather app and it said it was going to be nice this afternoon, so we came,\u201d said Marin Whitaker, who was enjoying Folsom Lake. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really mild here in Northern California and I\u2019m enjoying it,\u201d said Josh Stover, who was also at Folsom Lake. \u201cI\u2019m having a great time and it\u2019s almost time for me to go catch some salmon, and the rivers are perfect for it.\u201d <\/p>\n

Some visitors are squeezing in boating trips ahead of the holiday weekend. <\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve been out this season like three times, but the lake\u2019s a lot lower today than it was even when we were here like two weeks ago,\u201d Whitaker said. <\/p>\n

As more people plan to head to the rivers, American River Raft Rentals says reservations are filling up for the holiday weekend. <\/p>\n

\u201cMemorial Day to Labor Day is our busy season. We had a bit of a slow start. I mean, it was a little bit of a mild summer, never too hot. We started out a bit worried about water flows, but water flows ended up being perfect,\u201d said Kent Hansen of American River Raft Rentals. <\/p>\n

Hansen added that after a summer of fast-moving water, rafters can expect milder conditions this weekend. <\/p>\n

\u201cFast-moving water all season long until about a week ago, it came down to 2,500, which means this weekend in mid-80s is going to be ultra safe with nice mild flows to make our 3-to-4-hour float nice and easy for people of all ages,\u201d Hansen said. <\/p>\n

Officials remind visitors heading to the American River within Sacramento County jurisdiction or Sherman Island that an alcohol ban will be in effect during the holiday weekend. <\/p>\n

Boaters are also advised to check lake-specific inspection requirements and regulations to prevent the spread of golden mussels.<\/p>\n
