{"id":454841,"date":"2026-09-05T21:14:10","date_gmt":"2026-09-05T21:14:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/454841\/"},"modified":"2026-09-05T21:14:10","modified_gmt":"2026-09-05T21:14:10","slug":"labor-day-travel-weekend-comes-amid-higher-gas-prices","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/454841\/","title":{"rendered":"Labor Day travel weekend comes amid higher gas prices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>SAN DIEGO (KGTV) \u2013 Many people are either calling it a night after arriving or waking up early on Saturday to get to their <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.acg.aaa.com\/aaa-labor-day-travelers-face-higher-costs-and-heavier-traffic-wi\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Labor Day destinations<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>AAA said people are looking for ways to make travel work despite higher gas prices.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe know just historically what we&#8217;ve seen,\u00a0even with the travel being more expensive or gas being more expensive,\u00a0most people still prioritize travel,\u201d Annllyen Venagas, AAA Southern California<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s where <a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/gasprices.aaa.com\/?state=CA\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">gas prices stand right now <\/a>in our region. It\u2019s tipping about $5.92 a gallon for regular gas here in San Diego.\u00a0That\u2019s 16 cents more than a week ago and essentially a month ago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>But regular gas was below $5 a gallon this time last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>AAA said you\u2019re still encouraged to hit the road early, before 10 a.m. on Saturday and before noon on Monday, despite this time period not being the busiest of all holiday travel time periods.<\/p>\n<p>If you are driving, you\u2019ll clearly be spending more getting to your holiday destination.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/news.aaa-calif.com\/news\/auto-club-gas-prices-surge-before-labor-day-holiday\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">AAA Southern California <\/a>said Labor Day travelers can anticipate spending roughly $18 to $24 more to fill up their gas tank compared to last year\u2019s holiday.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey&#8217;re finding ways to make it work.
