At a city council meeting on Sept. 1, City Manager Dan Creighton announced a Bayfront study meeting, which will include a presentation and survey drive on Sept. 10 at 7 p.m., at the Martin Luther King Community Center.<\/p>\n
It will be hosted by Pastoral leadership in collaboration with Channel Park Homes Tenant Association, Concerned Citizens of Pinetown Homes, Concerned Citizens of North Park, the North Park Civic Association and the MLK Center.<\/p>\n
The study, which became accessible on June 29, addresses the city\u2019s North Park section \u2014 with a concentrated population of Black and Hispanic residents \u2014 bordered by Magnolia and Long Beach Boulevards. It features a combination of open-ended questions and multiple choice options, covering topics such as commercial and residential spaces, as well as demographics.<\/p>\n
The deadline for the study was extended to Sept. 15 after community leaders voiced concerns prior to a city council meeting held on Aug. 18.<\/p>\n
Creighton said 1,350 online surveys have already been collected by the city. A number of paper surveys have also been received but not yet tallied.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have been working with the city\u2019s faith-based leaders and agreed to extend the deadline to ensure everyone was aware and provided the opportunity to give their input,\u201d Creighton said. \u201cThe point of the survey is to get initial ideas from the community about what kind of development or features they do or do not want to see there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Consultants will hold a second meeting in October, which will be announced at a later date.<\/p>\n
