A pedestrian was killed Saturday night in Long Beach after being struck by a hit-and-run driver and then by a Los Angeles Metro light-rail train, authorities said.<\/p>\n
Long Beach police officers responded about 8:52 p.m. to the area of Long Beach Boulevard and East 23rd Street in the Wrigley District following reports of a fatal hit-and-run collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian, according to the Long Beach Police Department.<\/p>\n
Officers found the pedestrian lying on the Metro light-rail tracks along Long Beach Boulevard. That person was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.<\/p>\n
A preliminary investigation found that an unidentified vehicle was traveling south on Long Beach Boulevard when it struck the pedestrian in the roadway, causing the pedestrian to end up on the tracks. The pedestrian was subsequently struck by a Metro light-rail train, police said.<\/p>\n
It wasn\u2019t known whether the vehicle or the train caused the fatal injury, police said.<\/p>\n
The driver of the first vehicle fled the scene.<\/p>\n
The pedestrian\u2019s identity was being withheld pending identification by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Investigators had not determined whether speed, distracted driving or impaired driving contributed to the collision.<\/p>\n
