Fresno\u2019s longtime Public Works Director is retiring.\u00a0<\/p>\n
City Manager Georgeanne White announced Wednesday that Director Scott Mozier will retire and will be replaced by Brian Russell.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The big picture: Mozier has served as the Public Works Director since 2014 and has been with the Public Works Department since 2002.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He has worked on over 1m000 capital projects that were largely funded through Measure C, federal and state grants.\u00a0<\/p>\n
What we\u2019re watching: Russell ascends to the department\u2019s top position after working as the Assistant Director of Public Works.\u00a0<\/p>\n
He started with the city in 1994 as a Maintenance and Construction Worker in the Street Maintenance Division and worked his way up through the department as a Heavy Equipment Operator, Supervisor, Street Superintendent and Public Works Manager.\u00a0<\/p>\n
As the assistant director, Russell oversees 270 employees who are responsible for street maintenance, traffic signals, streetlights, landscape maintenance, urban forestry and graffiti abatement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Russell will take over as Public Works Director on Oct. 5.\u00a0<\/p>\n
What they\u2019re saying: White and Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer praised Mozier for his work at City Hall.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cThroughout his 24 years with the City, Scott has helped secure funding, build partnerships and successfully deliver projects such as Veterans Boulevard, the Fulton Street Reconstruction Project, the Pave More Now initiative and so much more,\u201d White said. \u201cWe are grateful for his many years of service.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Dyer added, \u201cScott has been instrumental in shaping Fresno and delivering projects that will serve our community for decades to come. We will miss him and the incredible way he has served our city over the years, and we wish him all the best in his next chapter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Looking ahead to Russell, White and Dyer said he has proven himself at every level of the department.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cHe is a strong, proven leader who understands the work, knows how to bring people together and gets things done,\u201d White said. \u201cI am confident he is the right person to lead the department into its next chapter.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Dyer added, \u201cHe understands our neighborhoods, he cares deeply about this city and he has a proven track record of delivering results.
