FLORENCE \u2014 Two roadways are expected to have temporary lane closures and require detours as stormwater improvements take place.<\/p>\n
The city received grant funding from the South Carolina Office of Resilience for the North Church Street and Oakland Avenue stormwater enhancement project.<\/p>\n
The project is designed to address localized flooding that can occur in the area during period of heavy rainfall.<\/p>\n
The project will improve the existing stormwater system along the Oakland Avenue and Norfolk Street corridors, according to a news release.<\/p>\n
Construction is expected to begin in September with completion expected in early summer 2027, the release said.<\/p>\n
The project will consist of the installation of larger stormwater pipes, new catch basins and other drainage improvements.<\/p>\n
The construction project area includes Oakland Avenue from Layton Street to Norfolk Street, and Norfolk Street from Oakland Avenue to Brand Street.<\/p>\n
Construction will take place within the roadways and is expected to require temporary lane closures, traffic detours and other construction-related impacts.<\/p>\n
Residents and motorists traveling through the project area are encouraged to use caution around construction activities, the release said.<\/p>\n
The city has recently been taking strides to improve its water, sewer and stormwater systems.
