Marie delivered steady rain and pounding surf to Southern California over the weekend, and forecasters say the former hurricane isn’t done yet.<\/p>\n

Showers from Marie, which has been downgraded to a tropical storm, continued to flow into Los Angeles County on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

Rain<\/p>\n

Rain is likely to continue through at least Monday afternoon, with a 10% chance of thunderstorms, according to the National Weather Service<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Marie is expected to weaken over the next few days as it slowly moves toward New Mexico.<\/p>\n

The storm will continue to generate southerly swells, creating an ongoing hazard at Southern California beaches, according to the Weather Service.<\/p>\n

Surf<\/p>\n

High surf<\/a> and coastal flood advisories remain in effect until 11 p.m. for 4- to 8-foot surf along beaches in Los Angeles, Orange and Ventura counties. Larger waves are expected at south-facing beaches.<\/p>\n

“There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents will be widespread and very strong, potentially pulling swimmers and surfers out to sea,” the Weather Service said.<\/p>\n

Lifeguards made dozens of rescues over the weekend, including a surfer who survived being swept up and over a jetty<\/a> in Newport Beach.<\/p>\n

“Thankfully, no one was injured,” Newport Beach Lifeguards wrote on social media. “These currents are no joke. Use caution and stay aware of changing ocean conditions.”<\/p>\n

Heat<\/p>\n

In addition to the high surf, forecasters are warning of advisory-level heat returning over the next few days.<\/p>\n

A high-pressure ridge is expected to build in from the east, bringing a moderate to high heat risk to many areas by Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Afternoon highs are expected to climb into the 90s and low 100s, with extremely humid conditions making temperatures feel even warmer.<\/p>\n

A slight cooldown is possible by Friday.<\/p>\n
