Fourteen individuals were transported to local hospitals following a series of medical emergencies at a concert held by The Chainsmokers in San Jose. According to PEOPLE, the event took place at Discovery Meadow on Friday, September 4, 2026, and required a significant response from emergency services to manage the situation as it unfolded throughout the evening.

The San Jose Fire Department arrived at the venue at 8.22 p.m. local time after receiving initial reports of multiple patients who required immediate medical attention. The situation escalated quickly, prompting the fire department to request an Ambulance Task Force, two additional advanced life support fire units, and a Battalion Chief to oversee the incident and provide necessary resources.

A total of 14 ambulances responded to the scene to assist those in need, and officials confirmed that 14 patients were ultimately transported to local hospitals for treatment. Police have suggested that the medical emergencies were linked to suspected alcohol intoxication and drug-related issues among concertgoers.

The police suspect that the abuse of alcohol and drugs led to the crisis

Reports indicate that at least 10 of these individuals were taken to the hospital within the final 30 minutes of the performance. Paramedics worked to treat concertgoers at the site of Discovery Meadow, continuing their efforts even as the concert concluded. (@SJFD) September 5, 2026

The San Jose Police Department assisted with traffic control during the event, though no arrests were reported following the incident. All fire department resources were able to return to service at approximately 10.34 p.m., indicating that the scene was cleared within about two hours of the initial emergency response. While the San Jose Fire Department and local authorities managed the logistics of the medical crisis, the conditions of the 14 hospitalized concertgoers remained unknown.

The Chainsmokers began their set at 5 p.m., and the electronic duo, consisting of Alex Pall and Drew Taggart, continued their performance despite the unfolding emergencies. Neither Pall nor Taggart has publicly addressed the events that occurred in San Jose. Following the concert, the duo appeared at Wynn Las Vegas’ Encore Beach Club on the morning of Saturday, September 5. They even shared concert footage on Sunday without making any mention of the events in San Jose.

Last month, another Chainsmokers concert made headlines over safety issues

This incident at Discovery Meadow follows another safety scare involving the electronic dance music (EDM) duo that occurred last month during an event in Palm Springs. Reality Tea reports that at that time, the duo performed at the Splash House After Hours event, where a fight reportedly broke out and bottles were thrown into the crowd. That separate incident resulted in nine people suffering injuries, with seven of those individuals requiring transport to a local hospital.

Attendees in Palm Springs reportedly sustained cuts from broken glass, and the Palm Springs Police Department conducted an investigation into the matter. Authorities have characterized the injuries in the Palm Springs event as minor and have not indicated any connection between the two separate incidents.

14 fans hospitalized at one concert is no small thing. When incidents keep happening, organizers need to take a serious look at crowd safety and make sure fans aren’t put at unnecessary risk. ?
