(KGET) &#8212; A man is in custody after a hit-and-run that killed a woman in east Bakersfield.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to the Bakersfield Police Department, officers were dispatched to the 2500 block of South Union Avenue Sunday just after 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">BPD said the woman was crossing outside of a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle driving northbound. The driver in the crash fled the scene with the vehicle before officers arrived to the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a data-ylk=\"slk:Watch 17 News, After Sunrise and more local news free on your smart TV. Click to learn more about KGET+\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Bakersfield Fire Department responded and pronounced the woman dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">With help from video footage, police later located the vehicle in the 3600 block of Cottonwood Road and arrested Guadalupe Hernandez, 36, for charges including hit-and-run causing death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to BPD, Hernandez admitted to being the driver and sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
