North Bay Interior Valleys, San Francisco Bay Shoreline, Northern Monterey Bay and Southern Monterey Bay and Big Sur Coast as well as San Francisco County are the focus of a coastal flood advisory released at 9:03 a.m. on Tuesday by the National Weather Service. The advisory is valid from 8 p.m. until Thursday Sept. 10, at 1 a.m.<\/p>\n

\u201cUp to 1.2 ft of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways,\u201d can be expected according to the NWS San Francisco CA<\/a>. \u201cAt the San Francisco tidal gauge, high tide is expected to be 1.2 ft above normal (6.99 ft MLLW) at 9:59 p.m. Tuesday 9\/8 and 1.0 ft above normal (6.79 ft MLLW) at 10:54 p.m. Wednesday 9\/9. These predictions include up to 0.6 ft of storm surge that will enhance the astronomical tide and flooding threat. High tide varies up to 90 minutes earlier or later along the Pacific Coast and through the San Francisco Bay, respectively.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFlooding of lots, parks, and roads with only isolated road closures expected,\u201d according to the NWS. \u201cIf travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property.\u201d<\/p>\n

Seek higher ground:<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re in a flood-prone area, or if you\u2019re camping in a low-lying spot, move to higher ground as a first step.<\/p>\n

Follow evacuation orders:<\/p>\n

If local authorities issue an evacuation order, heed it promptly. Prior to leaving, secure your home by locking it.<\/p>\n

Disconnect utilities and appliances:<\/p>\n

If time allows, disconnect your utilities and appliances. This reduces the risk of electrical hazards during flooding.<\/p>\n

Steer clear of flooded basements and submerged areas:<\/p>\n

Avoid basements or rooms submerged in water with electrical outlets or cords. Preventing electrical accidents is crucial.<\/p>\n

Swift evacuation for your safety:<\/p>\n

If you notice sparks or hear buzzing, crackling, snapping, or popping noises, evacuate immediately. Avoid any water that may be charged with electricity.<\/p>\n

Refrain from walking in floodwaters:<\/p>\n

Never attempt to walk through floodwaters. Even just 6 inches of swiftly moving water can forcefully knock you off your feet.<\/p>\n

Seek high ground if trapped:<\/p>\n

In the event you become trapped by moving water, make your way to the highest point available and contact emergency services by calling 911.<\/p>\n

When heavy rain occurs, there is a potential for flooding, particularly in areas that are low-lying or prone to floods. It is crucial to never drive through water on the road, even if it appears shallow. According to the NWS, as little as 12 inches of fast-flowing water can carry away most vehicles. Stay safe by being prepared and informed.<\/p>\n
