Long Beach residents looking to reenter the workforce can attend a job fair on Thursday, Sept. 10, to connect with employers and resources.<\/p>\n
The event will take place from 9 a.m. to noon at the Long Beach Workforce Innovation Network Adult Career Services Center at 4811 Airport Plaza Dr.<\/p>\n
The fair is open to all job seekers, yet the event is geared toward those with criminal histories and employers open to hiring them, said Chelsey Magallon, a public affairs officer for the city\u2019s Department of Economic Development and Opportunity.<\/p>\n
At least eight employers and agencies, primarily representing skilled trades, construction and transportation, will attend: Grid Alternatives, Ironworkers 416, LA Metro, Partners Personnel, PCL Construction, Swinerton, Teamsters Local 986 and The Christmas Light Guy Co.<\/p>\n
Several other groups will be present to provide resources, including the Employed Security Service Center, Long Beach City College Justice Scholars and ReIGNITE HOPE.<\/p>\n
Those interested in attending can come prepared by researching employers, updating their r\u00e9sum\u00e9s and practicing brief introductions, Magallon said.<\/p>\n
This year\u2019s event is the second iteration of the fair, which began as a collaboration between Long Beach and the U.S. Probation and Pretrial Services Office. The two worked together with the goal of creating pathways to stable employment for people involved in the justice system, Magallon said.<\/p>\n
The first partnership was a success, and the city plans to continue hosting the fair annually, she said.<\/p>\n
