Billionaire comedy duo Trey Parker and Matt Stone<\/a> are unveiling a new name for \u201cSouth Park\u201d ahead of the show\u2019s 29th season: \u201cSouth America.\u201d <\/p>\n

The satirical series\u2019 name change follows President Trump\u2019s renaming of Lake Ontario to Lake America<\/a> amid the escalating U.S.-Canada trade war. Last week, tech behemoths Apple and Google honored Trump\u2019s executive order and renamed the Great Lake on their maps for U.S. users. <\/p>\n

Parker and Stone made the announcement<\/a> on social media on Tuesday, writing, \u201cInspired by the bravery and patriotism of Apple and Google, we are changing the name of South Park to SOUTH AMERICA. We especially want to thank our parent company Paramount \u2014 a Skydance Capitulation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The duo also jabbed at their parent company and its new owner, Skydance Media, for what media critics have characterized as caving to the Trump administration\u2019s Federal Communications Commission<\/a>. The \u201ccapitulation\u201d involved controversial corporate and programming adjustments as well as agreeing to a $16-million settlement<\/a> over a lawsuit brought by Trump involving a \u201c60 Minutes\u201d segment to get Paramount\u2019s $8-billion merger with Skydance approved. <\/p>\n

Last year, following a particularly incendiary episode of the show \u2014 in which a parody of Trump has an X-rated fling with Satan, and the president is portrayed as having an animated micropenis \u2014 the White House issued a statement to Variety slamming the series. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe Left\u2019s hypocrisy truly has no end \u2014 for years they have come after \u2018South Park\u2019 for what they labeled as \u2018offense\u2019 [sic] content, but suddenly they are praising the show,\u201d White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers said<\/a> in a statement to the outlet. \u201cJust like the creators of \u2018South Park,\u2019 the Left has no authentic or original content, which is why their popularity continues to hit record lows.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week, \u201cSouth Park,\u201d won an Emmy Award for outstanding animated program. And last summer, Parker and Stone reached a five-year, $1.5-billion deal with Paramount to secure exclusive global streaming rights on Paramount+, making the series one of television\u2019s most valuable shows and its creators two of the highest-paid comedy writers in the biz. <\/p>\n

The 29th season of \u201cSouth America\u201d premieres Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. on Comedy Central.<\/p>\n
