{"id":458343,"date":"2026-09-09T15:58:24","date_gmt":"2026-09-09T15:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/458343\/"},"modified":"2026-09-09T15:58:24","modified_gmt":"2026-09-09T15:58:24","slug":"driver-cooperating-after-fatal-us-50-pedestrian-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/458343\/","title":{"rendered":"Driver cooperating after fatal US-50 pedestrian crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">(FOX40.COM) \u2014 A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle Tuesday night in Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">At about 9:54, the Sacramento Communications Center broadcast a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway on the westbound side Highway 50 east of Interstate 5, CHP said in a news release Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">When officers arrived, they found an adult man who had been fatally struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, CHP said. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be factors in the crash.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">According to CHP, a preliminary investigation showed the pedestrian was in the No. 7 lane of the highway. The driver, operating a Honda, was driving in that lane and saw the vehicle ahead of him &#8220;suddenly swerve to the left.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The driver then saw the man in the lane ahead but was unable to avoid the collision.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">CHP is still actively investigating the crash and encouraged anyone with information about the fatal incident to contact the South Sacramento office at 916-897-5600.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
