Weezer<\/a> began their \u201cThe Gathering\u201d North American tour<\/a> at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, California on Tuesday, September 8th, performing a variety of rarities along with tracks from their recent album, Weezer<\/a> (A.K.A. The Gold Album).<\/p>\n

The show commenced with an opening performance from Silversun Pickups, who dusted off the usual fan-favorites \u201cWell Thought Out Twinkles,\u201d \u201cPanic Switch,\u201d and \u201cLazy Eye\u201d for their set. The Shins followed shortly after, performing their first extended, full-band show in four years. They opened with \u201cSimple Song,\u201d continuing with \u201cAustralia,\u201d and\u00a0Chutes Too Narrow\u2018s \u201cGone for Good.\u201d They rounded things out with staples like \u201cHeartworms,\u201d \u201cCaring Is Creepy,\u201d and \u201cNew Slang,\u201d closing the set with \u201cSleeping Lessons.\u201d<\/p>\n

Then came the main event: Weezer took the stage around 9:20 p.m., performing on a set that was fashioned as a cozy backyard; they had a campfire, plants around the stage, a picnic bench, string lights, an actual house, and more homey props and set pieces. They kicked things off with a short video introducing the show, featuring a young Weezer fan telling bullies that the band would be playing at his house that night. The fan then calls \u201cWeezer\u2019s agent\u201d and offers them 98 cents to play, but gets rejected; hopeless, he draws Weezer symbols and an infinity sign, which magically reaches Rivers Cuomo and inspires him to get the band together for \u201cThe Gathering.\u201d<\/p>\n

The band then arrived on stage and played opening song \u201cShine Again,\u201d the lead single off their recently-released album. They continued with \u201cSurf Wax America,\u201d followed by the first performance of \u201cKeep Fishin’\u201d \u2014 a track from their 2002 album Maladroit \u2014 in eight years (later, the band performed \u201cSlob\u201d from Maladroit for the first time since 2005).<\/p>\n

Weezer kept \u201cThe Gathering\u201d going with beloved tracks like \u201cHash Pipe,\u201d \u201cBeverly Hills,\u201d \u201cPork and Beans,\u201d \u201cMy Name Is Jonas,\u201d \u201cUndone \u2013 The Sweater Song,\u201d and more. They notably performed six (!) tracks from their 1996 album Pinkerton, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year; they played \u201cNo Other One\u201d for the first time since 2019 and dusted off \u201cThe Good Life,\u201d \u201cFalling for You,\u201d \u201cPink Triangle,\u201d \u201cTired of Sex,\u201d and \u201cEl Scorcho.\u201d<\/p>\n

Weezer also invited Silversun Pickups bassist Nikki Monninger to the stage for a trio of duets, starting with new track \u201cWe Might as Well Be Strangers.\u201d They followed with \u201cGo Away\u201d and \u201cI Just Threw Out the Love of My Dreams,\u201d two duets that have respectively gone viral in 2026 years after their original release. Weezer will keep \u201cThe Gathering\u201d going alongside The Shins and Silversun Pickups through October, with a slate of Japan shows set for February 2027 and a European tour with Taking Back Sunday following in May.
