As expected, a Madison Heights man and his girlfriend who beat to death her 6-year-old son are headed to prison for the rest of their lives, as sentenced Wednesday by Oakland County Circuit Judge Michael Warren.<\/p>\n

In separate trials earlier this year, Daniel John Giacchina, 34, and Elaina Jennings, 27, were convicted of first-degree felony homicide and other criminal charges for the death of Giovanni \u201cChulo\u201d Jennings on July 31, 2024. The child died from blunt force trauma and a perforated bowel, according to the Oakland County Medical Examiner. A subsequent investigation determined the couple had repeatedly abused the little boy \u2014 including using a staple gun to bind him to a wall.<\/p>\n

A 911 call reporting that the child wasn\u2019t breathing drew first responders to the couple\u2019s home on Dequindre Road on July 30, 2024. He was transported to an area hospital Ascension Macomb-Oakland Hospital and then transferred to Children\u2019s Hospital where he died.<\/p>\n

As stated in his obituary<\/a>, Giovanni Jennings was the beloved son of David Reyes.<\/p>\n

In addition to life in prison without the possibility of parole, Giacchina was handed concurrent sentences of 75-150 years for first-degree child abuse, 4-30 years for possession of a firearm by a prohibited person and possession of a ammunition by a prohibited person, and 46 months -15 years for lying to a peace officer. He also received a consecutive sentence of two years for felony firearm. Giacchina was sentenced as a four-time habitual offender.<\/p>\n

Along with her life sentence, Jennings also received concurrent sentences of 18 years 9 months \u2013 50 years for first degree child abuse and 14 months \u2013 2 years for lying to a peace officer.<\/p>\n

Awaiting transport to the Michigan Department of Corrections, Giacchina and Jennings have been in custody at the Oakland County Jail since Aug. 3, 2024.<\/p>\n
