(FOX40.COM) \u2014 A pedestrian was fatally hit by a vehicle Tuesday night in Sacramento, the California Highway Patrol said.<\/p>\n
At about 9:54, the Sacramento Communications Center broadcast a report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway on the westbound side Highway 50 east of Interstate 5, CHP said in a news release Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n
When officers arrived, they found an adult man who had been fatally struck by a vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p>\n
The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, CHP said. Neither alcohol nor drugs are suspected to be factors in the crash.<\/p>\n
According to CHP, a preliminary investigation showed the pedestrian was in the No. 7 lane of the highway. The driver, operating a Honda, was driving in that lane and saw the vehicle ahead of him \u201csuddenly swerve to the left.\u201d<\/p>\n
The driver then saw the man in the lane ahead but was unable to avoid the collision.<\/p>\n
