{"id":458763,"date":"2026-09-10T00:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-09-10T00:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/458763\/"},"modified":"2026-09-10T00:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-09-10T00:20:08","slug":"long-beach-coast-is-headed-to-pioneer-baseball-league-playoffs-press-telegram","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-ca\/458763\/","title":{"rendered":"Long Beach Coast is headed to Pioneer Baseball League playoffs \u2013 Press Telegram"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Long Beach Coast\u2019s players endured 100-degree weather while practicing at historic Blair Field on Wednesday, Sept. 9, with various music, including \u201cCan\u2019t C Me,\u201d blaring over speakers \u2014 as the team prepared for the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>In their inaugural year, the Long Beach Coast made it to the 2026 Pioneer Baseball League playoffs, having the best record in the first half of the season, team officials said.<\/p>\n<p>The initial playoff series will begin on Thursday, Sept. 10, at Blair Field, and run through Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>Making the playoffs was the expectation, manager Troy Percival said during a press conference on the eve of the postseason.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI expected to be in the postseason,\u201d Percival said. \u201cNow, I don\u2019t ever expect to be in the finals because anything can happen in the playoffs. (Photo by Christina Merino, Press-Telegram\/SCNG)\n<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#\" class=\"icon-enlarge mng-gallery-fullscreen-expand\" aria-label=\"Expand fullscreen slideshow\">Expand<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Making it this far as a first-year team reflected its high goals and ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe were the first team in the league this year to clinch a playoff spot,\u201d said Long Beach Coast Vice President Claire Duvendeck. \u201cWe finished the first half in first place. From a front office side, we would have been happy having just a successful season, but being able to hit these huge benchmarks in our first year is incredible. And I think that for the front office side and the team side, it\u2019s just put everyone\u2019s energy in the right place, and everyone\u2019s been so amped and excited (being) along for the ride since the beginning of the season, and we\u2019ve recognized that with our fan base too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the three games happening at Blair Field, Duvendeck said, the team will continue its focus on creating great fan experiences \u2013 such pregame ceremonies and performances. On Friday, for example, the Dove Shack will perform \u201cSummertime in the LBC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very proud of Long Beach, but we do like to add as much energy and character to our ballpark experience as we can,\u201d Duvendeck said, \u201cand we hope fans come out and have a really good time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The players also said they are excited to have made it this far and are looking forward to the high energy that a home game brings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBuilding off that crowd\u2019s energy, hopefully it feels a little bit like opening week, where we had a lot of people here, and we\u2019ve seen all year that we build off the crowd\u2019s energy and it gives us momentum,\u201d said Cuba Bess, the first baseman and designated hitter for the Long Beach Coast. \u201cWhen the crowd gets into it, it brings us to life.
