Pangaea Bier Cafe<\/a>, the longtime favorite Curtis Park beer hall and burger join that lost its lease earlier this year<\/a>, has announced its return in spring 2027, the restaurant announced on its social media.<\/p>\n

The restaurant will be going into a new Heller Pacific development downtown called The Diggs<\/a>, located across from the CalPers building at 3rd and R Streets. Formerly Thomson Diggs Hardware, transformed into 140 loft-style residences with \u201carts-forward commercial space designed for makers, coffee mornings, and cocktail evenings,\u201d according to the project\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

According to owner Rob Archie, the revamped Pangaea will take the concept to a new level, including a much expanded space.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s an emotional time picking a new home for your baby, but I love this project, man. It\u2019s a beautiful space, 4,000 square foot space inside. We have almost a 7,000 square foot patio, It\u2019s just going to be a lot of fun, a lot of place for community to get together,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Going beyond Pangaea\u2019s roots as a tap house, the space will actually have the capacity to make its own brew.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re going to be doing some fun little projects, passion projects. There\u2019ll be room to brew our own (beer),\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

While affiliated with Urban Roots, Pangaea will have its own distinct branded beer. Archie says they plan to do collaborations with some of their favorite breweries around the country.<\/p>\n

As for the food, corporate chef Greg Desmangles says it all starts with the burger, but doesn\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re looking at housemade sausages, steaks, more robust dinner options,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Rob Archie opened Pangaea in 2008. He later went on to partner with Peter Hoey to launch Urban Roots Brewing & Smokehouse<\/a>, which became a hospitality empire encompassing fried chicken concept BAWK!<\/a>, adjacent speakeasy The Roost<\/a>, Mexican restaurant Cerveceria at the Shack<\/a> and most recently the full-service Good Neighbor<\/a> in Ice Blocks.<\/p>\n
